Flag Day 5k Road Race
The 1st LT Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund returned to Cashman Park for the 15th Annual Flag Day 5K road race on June 13th. On that beautiful summer afternoon, more than 1,000 runners passed through the Exchange Club flags on the final rail trail leg of the race, finishing at the stage at Cashman Park within a semi-circle of flags backing up banners of fallen heroes. You can see highlights of the race in this video.
The Exchange Club is grateful to all the volunteers who helped with the flag set-up and take-down, especially the Newburyport High School football team under the direction of coach John Webber.

The Exchange Club is honored to provide flags for this annual event, supporting the 1st LT Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund, and recognizing the many local men and women who have lost their lives in service to our country. The 5K walk and run honors 1st LT Derek Hines and supports the fund that provides financial assistance for Massachusetts’ soldiers, and their families, who have incurred serious, career-ending, and life-altering injuries while on active duty. You can find out more about the 1st LT Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund on the fund’s website.
